Eco-responsible commitment

Winter being an inherent component of our event, it appears essential for our organization to reduce as much as possible its footprint on the environment, to help preserve our winters.

Multiple concrete actions have been implemented by the organization for several editions already, with the aim of reducing waste production and limiting the energy consumption of the event. Among these, the elimination of single-use glasses at the refreshment stands and in the volunteers’ HQ, the use of biodegradable dishes, the reduction of the number of single-use bibs, the production of wooden trophies, the use of electric energy instead of propane gas for heating, etc.

New this year, registrants had the opportunity to voluntarily offset the greenhouse gas emissions related to their participation in the event. This voluntary contribution was donated to the Coopérative FA and its Carbone Scol’ERE Québec program.

Thanks to these voluntary contributions, 16.28 tons of CO2 were offset, the equivalent of more than 160 round trips by plane between Montreal and Toronto.

Thank you to all the people who are supporting us in our efforts to make our event more eco-responsible and more respectful of the environment. There is still work to be done, but we are very proud to be working in the right direction.

What is the Carbone Scol’ERE program?

It is an educational program unique in the world that aims to make young people in Quebec’s elementary schools eco-responsible, thanks to the voluntary participation of citizens and organizations. More than 12,000 young people across the province benefit from these actions.
